about flynn
“An all rounder with experience across events, jewellery and object design, fashion retail, and teaching, I am a passionate creative with a constant desire to express, learn, and collaborate. Just as much as I love designing a ring alone at my jewellers bench, I also find that often the best ideas come from building and maintaining good relationships, whether in the workshop, classroom, storefront, or events space. Quick on my feet, I flourish in fast paced environments where I ensure my attention to detail is never overlooked. I am passionate about thoughtful and ethical practices, finding that connection with local businesses adds so much to the experience for all parties involved and I am proud to have worked for local boutiques and labels prioritising these values. I love telling stories and finding ways to incorporate narrative and style into my work comes naturally.”

HEARTCRAWL is a project by Flynn Gilder-Smith,
an emerging jeweller based in Naarm who has recently completed an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design at Melbourne Polytechnic. Additionally, Flynn assists and teaches classes at Blonde. in Fitzroy.
Inspired by the space between binaries, Flynn creates work primarily using precious metals, exploring their ability to appear delicate and soft despite their strength and durability.
Drawing on personal memories, Flynn manipulates motifs from pop iconography and modern culture wars to create understanding of their own fantasies and nightmares.
